The 1000 hp Bud V16 started life with 961 bhp but was later reduced to 750 to give the Twin Disc Commander 700 box a vague chance of survival (700 bhp capacity). The 800 bhp ACO (South Western Transvaal Agricultural Co-operative Ltd.)you referred to had a V12 ADE engine with 814 bhp (Merc 444TI made under licence in SA). This was fed through a Twin Disc 2612 box and then Raba 694 axles. It weighed 28 tonnes. We have a 525 Lioness in mid England, - pics of it can be seen on our website www.amtrac.co.uk It clearly has a modified Steiger S4 chassis and cab. Inside however the Steiger parts were limited to :-Axle casings and Transfer casing and it's three shafts. The rest of the components had to be substantially larger. The CAT 3406 C is turfing out 525 bhp @2100 rpm with about 1750 lb/ft @ 1400 rpm.
